Prince Andrew visits Quest Software in Aliso Viejo

Prince Andrew visits QuestPrince Andrew, The Duke of York, came to Aliso Viejo yesterday to visit the headquarters of business software company Quest Software.

The visit was aimed at encouraging Quest to expand in the United Kingdom by finding new clients and locating a large research and development center there.

“Prince Andrew was interested in our Green initiatives, and how we are developing tools for data centers to make them more efficient,” said Steve Dickson, a Quest vice president and general manager. “We discussed how technology is helping to address IT power consumption to help companies become more environmentally friendly.”

The second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, he is on a 10-day trade mission to the United States.

Quest buys British computer-security company

ACQUISITION

Business software company Quest Software of Aliso Viejo announced Wednesday that it will buy PassGo Technologies, a British firm specializing in controlling who’s allowed to use a company’s computers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Quest said the deal will add PassGo’s “market-leading identity management and compliance products” to user-ID software that Quest has developed, creating a range of programs for various business platforms, including Microsoft’s Active Directory, Unix, and IBM’s zSeries and iSeries.

Quest Software moves into virtual desktop market

Quest Software Inc. of Aliso Viejo announced Monday that it will move into the market for business software that manages employees’ virtual desktops. It’s doing that by acquiring Provision Networks Inc. of Reston, Va.

Quest said the move would let it “extend its leadership in infrastructure management from the desktop to the datacenter.” Terms of the deal were not announced.
