FIGHTING DIABETES
Medicare is considering whether to increase its coverage of bariatric surgery for weight loss, because research shows that the procedure can help reverse diabetes.
Reuters reported in a news article that the government agreed to “assess the nature of the scientific evidence supporting surgery for the treatment of diabetes.”
Bariatric surgery, including use of the Lap-Band device from Irvine-based Allergan, has grown in popularity in recent years, but that growth has been slowed by limited insurance coverage.
