Many of the world’s top video game players will compete in K2 Network’s fantasy role-playing game Red Stone as part of this year’s World Cyber Games.
Red Stone, operated in many countries by Irvine-based K2, will be the only massively multi-player online game in the annual competition, which attracts more than 1.5 million players from more than 70 countries.
Red Stone was developed by L & K Logic Korea Co. Ltd. and launched in Asia in 2004.
The finals of the World Cyber Games will be held Nov. 5-9 in Cologne, Germany.
The tournament covers PC and Xbox 360 games, including the first contests for Halo 3 and Guitar Hero III players, plus competitions in Starcraft: Brood War, WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne, and others.
Teams of four gamers each will compete in the Red Stone tournament, the World Cyber Games announced last month.
“We are thrilled that Red Stone was selected to participate in such a prestigious event,” said Joon Woo Kim, associate producer for the game at K2 Network. “With its robust international community, Redstone is a perfect fit for the World Cyber Games and we wish all the participants the best of luck.”Red Stone gamers play a variety of characters who seek lost pieces of a jewel that can restore peace to their world. In partnership with Red Stone publisher Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., K2 launched the game last fall in North and South America, Turkey, India and Poland.
K2 Network claims more than 16 million registered users for multi-player online games such as Knight Online, its more popular title; War Rock; Global MU Online; and Sword of the New World: Granado Espada.
People can play K2 games for free. K2 makes money by selling premium packages that offer players better customer service and quicker advancement for their characters.
